FEBRUARY BLOSSOMS
We went out walking in the meadow
Golden ruins
Shining off the smoothness of her drapes
The sun began to melt the puddles
Night-time icy veil
As the children lay in their bed’s
Fast asleep, Fast asleep
*
Stray loose ends of hair
That go dancing in the breeze
What great heights we reach
When no one see’s
I wish that we could say the things we feel
So much that goes unsaid
Pass away like taillights in the fog
February blossoms early in the sun
Fade under the weight of winter’s thumb
I was hoping they would stay
The wind blew them away
But I’m thankful that I took this photograph
Photograph
*
Listening to the pebbles roll
In the creek bed where the water flows
There was a time I thought I understood
California’s hidden jewel
Sparkles like the morning dew
As the children lay in their beds
Fast asleep
February blossoms early in the sun
Fade under the weight of winter’s thumb
I was hoping they would stay
The wind blew them away
But I’m thankful that I took this photograph
The light was changing so I took this photograph
The sun was lazy so I took this photograph, photograph
WEIGHTLESS
Wasting time is never wasted
Wasted on you
Days roll by
But your standing still
All those starry lights
How they rain upon you
My clothes are wet
With tears you never spilt
Waste it, waste it
Till we get weightless
Wasted time is never
When you get wasted on me
Days roll by
I’m standing still
All those countless hours
Listening to the flowers
Come flooding back in half-remembered dreams
waste it, waste it
It’s so unreal sometimes I forget
How we fell into an endless dream
Closer then further away
Like the first song you could sing
Waste it
Till we get weightless
STREET PROMENADE
Cascading sapphires of light
Fall from the moon tonight
Ripple but don’t make a sound
Headlights that dance
Through spaces encased time immortal
Oh, street promenade
Screaming like banshees in the street
Mary go around, leave me lost in the crowd
Street promenade
Watching the play of light on the water
Below Rose avenue bridge late at night
Swirling cocoons by the light of the moon
Float like paper mache
Screaming like banshees in the street
Mary go around, leave me lost in the crowd
Street promenade
Honey take me downtown
Honey take me downtown
Dance me till I can’t find my way
Honey take me downtown
Honey take me downtown
To the garden where we once layed
Till I can’t find my way
IN AND OUT YOUR WINDOW
Come to your door in a trance
And I Leave with my knee’s weak
Spilling my thought’s out all over the floor
She always leaves the search light for me
Clinching your pillow tight
Before I drift into the night
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
She ain’t the only one
The sun it kissed your hair
But it burned your skin so fair
Through your dress
I memorized your silhouette
When your tattoos fade and your hair goes gray
I hope they served you well
Where this is going I just can’t tell
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
My little girl she only wants to have fun
She ain’t the only one
You’re gonna give it away
You’re gonna give it away
For free someday
I can’t wait no
I can’t wait that long
I can’t wait no
I can’t put you down
PRETTY DERAILED MACHINES
The warmth from within fades with the sun
And daybreak is blistering slow
I’m calling your name so know one can hear
Your inside me pulling these strings
Junk yard glitter
Throwing stones in the river
No schedules to keep
Shipwrecked on the beach
These trains of thought with all you’ve forgot
Come and they go as they please
No schedules to keep
They fall off the tracks
Like pretty derailed machines
Junk yard glitter
Throwing stones in the River
No schedules to keep
Shipwrecked on the beach
Calling your name so know one can hear
Love is not gone love is just sleeping
SHADOWS ON PARADE
Loneliness is holiness holiness is loneliness
The truth is just a joke inside if me
We we’re born to lose everything that we once knew
I thought I heard the mountain move
The delicate stitch that binds us built to fray
Lines meant to separate bleed into the fabric hidden stains
We traded our innocence for control
Now somethings bound to roll us back to where we started from
The currents relax but the body still sways
Moving through walls
Shadows on Parade
The currents relax but the body still sways
Heavy thighs and loaded eyes
Shadows on parade
21st century arch enemy is atrophy
It’s part of the chase when we come face to face
The hills were once alive with ghosts and mythic creatures
They disappeared somewhere I don’t know when
The currents relax but the body still sways
Moving through walls
Shadows on Parade
The currents relax but the body still sways
Heavy thighs and loaded eyes
Shadows on parade
We we’re born to lose everything that we once knew
I thought I heard the mountain move
Or was it just a grain of sand shifting far below
Or was it just an unseen hand that leads us down the road
Was it just a grain of sand
As above it is so below
The currents relax but the body still sways
Moving through walls
Shadows on Parade
The currents relax but the body still sways
Heavy thighs and loaded eyes
Shadows on parade
FOR MY FRIENDS
I’ll play quite now, please just leave me alone
And Go play for the junkies in the street
& hope they’ll be a bit more kind
Then my fucking neighbors.
Everyone here they got a band
And a guitar neck in their left hand
Thinking, “It’s gotta be me” &
“Please god let me be seen”
Let them be seen
I don’t want to make the scene
I just want to play until my fingers bleed
For my friends
Why do we shoot for the stars
I don’t want to make the scene
I just want to play until my fingers bleed
I don’t want to make the scene
I just want to play until my fingers bleed
For my friends
A TANGLED ROSE
So twisted up inside your velvet soul, I’d never cut your vines
I hope you know
Even a tangled rose is beautiful
Just like the quiet one that no one sees
Peddles fixed inward where the sun don’t shine, my black rose valentine
A tangled rose ,slowly unraveling above, I’d never cut your vines
I’d never cut your vines away
When you’re a tangled mess
That’s when I love you best,
Between your stem’s, I will awake again
You ripened late, Gathering beauty in a withered state
Just like the quiet one that no one sees
Peddles fixed inward where the sun don’t shine, my black rose valentine
A tangled rose, slowly unraveling above, I’d never cut your vines
I’d never cut your vines away
Even a tangled rose
Even a tangled rose can grow
HOPELESSLY DEVOTED
Deprive me spoil me, do as you please
Seduce me, call me names, make me bleed
I won’t get mad, no I won’t complain
I’m hopelessly devoted casue she’s not devoted to me
If you come home to find me drunk on the floor
Step over my body you need do nothing more
I’ll be as quiet as a mouse, can I come sleep at your house
I’m hopelessly devoted cause she’s not devoted to me
I know it sounds insane, I guess I’m just a glutton for pain
Winds of change they blow my way
You left me standing there in the Park
Until it got dark
I’ve heard it’s best to travel by two
Only wish I knew how to get through
To that place before our love had a past
I’m hopelessly devoted cause she’s not devoted to me
Busted down in Mexico
oh you forgot to tell me that part
Probably thought I’d slip away
or maybe it just makes you feel old
Nobody wants to feel old anymore, we’d rather feel vein
CANADA
Stumbled north towards Canada numb from disbelief
Wobble walking way out west gonna ease the souls disease
Sometimes I cross the border with a waitress from the east
Sheets of memory bead
Fall like maple leaves
They won’t find what there looking for
Left the hall light on, cracked the door
The day I left you Canada
Lost myself pocket full of weeds
A candy coated sedative is gonna ease the souls disease
Streets are paved with jewelry or do my eyes deceive
The wheels still in spin
Reflecting you what you could have been
They won’t find what there looking for
Forgot what it was that I want
But it won’t erase you Canada
The sky turned glacial blue
The day I left you
Canada
THE NIGHT
The night it holds a mystery
For those of us who care enough to listen
And strong enough to never know a thing
The sky it holds the moon, floating in a black lagoon
The night it holds my dreams in place
This frame of mine is perpetually drifting
We sing into the darkness
TO hear some kind of truth reflected back
This pounding in my chest won’t die
It takes so long to find out how to listen
And accept the fickle nature of the beast
Advance then retreat, but don’t stop
Searching for your dreams
River’s run out to the sea
Cut their own path of least resistance
Tomorrow we can change all that
So don’t hold back the light from coming through
The night it holds my dreams in place
This frame of mine is perpetually drifting
Tomorrow we can change all that
So don’t hold back the light from coming through
Tomorrow we can change our path
So don’t hold back the light from coming through
THIS CITY LIFE
She took back her guitar with the stickers on the case
Be that as it may, now he just lays in bed all day
Humming this tune to the cat she left behind
Ash tray full of roaches and an empty jug of wine
Never will his sweat hit soil again this city life
On and on light neon lights that flicker in the night
Encased beneath a concrete tomb a distant muted land
That try’s to grow out from the cracks
One day it will all grow back
Thinks out loud some days with the pigeons by the lake
No tongue to speak their mind, magicians of the pantomime
Oakland wants to sleep until it rains gold, silver, and black
Peeling back the night, searching for clues down Grand Ave.
Never will his sweat hit soil again this city life
On and on light neon lights that flicker in the night
Encased beneath a concrete tomb a distant muted land
That try’s to grow out from the cracks
One day….
Never will his sweat hit soil again this city life
On and on light neon lights that flicker in the night
As common as a night of sober sleep
Are peaceful dreams
They try to grow out from the cracks
One day it will all grow back
TIME IS A TRAIN
Time is a train some say we can’t get off
Look down the line wait for a sign
Speeding fast on your way down
Felt both lost and found
Until you hit the ground
Leave with me the month of May
Figure it out along the way’
There’s no need to speak
I’ll drive while you sleep
To the night outside with half closed diamond eyes
It must be close to Christmas time
The rivers wide so many shades of blue
Lonely beating hearts sit by the fire place
Heavy as the moon
Leave with me the month of May
Get so high by ocean sides
Spend a few afternoons in some shit-hole saloons
Wrong side of the tracks
Since the day I jumped ain’t looking back
It must be close to Christmas time
The rivers wide so many shads of blue
Lonely beating hearts sit by the fire place
Heavy as the moon
Time is a train
Some say we can’t get off
I’m gonna jump, I’m gonna jump
I’m gonna jump, I’m gonna jump
INNER VIEW
Darling don’t wake me if this isn’t true
Just let me lay here with my inner-view
If the eyes are the windows into the soul
Why do we keep them closed
Smoke from a pile of brittle leaves
Rise up like 10,000 ghosts released
And drift past the waves
Where the ocean meets the canyon
So dark and deep
Don’t wake me if this isn’t true
Let me lay here with my inner-view
Don’t wake me if this isn’t true
And I’ll lie to you
The devil and the deep ocean blue
Tie us in knots with beauty and truth
And bad dreams help us to confess
Oh, I guess
Don’t wake me if this isn’t true
You don’t know me and I don’t know you
Don’t wake me if this isn’t true
And I’ll lie to you
Everybody wants you to take their trip
Where nobody feels any pain
Don’t try to shake me, darling don’t wake me
I’ll find my way back somehow
If this isn’t true
If this isn’t true
